30 days ago the rental market here in Asbury was strong, robust, and well…..normal. The Steinbeck had nine 1 and 2 bedroom units available and today there is one studio available. City wide there is very little available in the rental market.
In fact, in all the years I’ve been in real estate – I’ve never seen this happen. It’s simply dried up. There’s simply nothing available.
Obviously everyone needs a place to live, and as the housing market gets tighter most people who can’t afford a home or get a mortgage look to rent. But what’s so unsual here is that it seems to have occurred all of a sudden.
Maybe it’s just that everyone realized that Asbury Park is THE place to live all of a sudden. Well, that’s all right with us! We love this place and the more cool people – the better!

So here’s one of the things I love about Asbury Park – if you have an idea and want to act on it, you can make it happen. Case in point, the new film series at the ShowRoom entitled ArtCurious. Nancy Sabino and I were talking with Dennis Carrol of ArtsCAP, Jenn Hampton and Sarah Potter from Parlor Gallery and we thought it would be a cool idea to curate a series of films on art and the art process. Art in all its disciplines: photography, film, dance, music, well . . . you get the idea. There’s enough films out there about the subject that we could have one a week, but we wanted to start small and see if it could develop into an audience.
Not wanting this to be just ANY film series, we were hoping people would come who were emotionally tied to the subject matter, thinking with that kind of audience, discussion would be natural and forthcoming. We brainstormed some phrases over coffee at the ShowRoom conference room – Americas Cup, and came up with ArtCurious.
Launched last weekend with the film “Exit Through the Gift Shop”, we were all pleased with the turnout and the ensuing discussion. Programmed with a series of 5 more films, this is just the kind of series that could find a welcome home in Asbury Park. The next ArtCurious film is scheduled for June 12th and we’ll be sure to publish the news on all our associated lists to get the word out.
Art Curious and Asbury Park – of course!
